I was talking to a friend who works in IT department of a company a few weeks ago. He is living in a non-central location of Istanbul and I wanted to know how many hours he was spending commuting every day. The answer was striking. 2 hours one way! This means 4 hours a day spent on the road every day. 20 hours a week and roughly 80 hours a month. Isn’t that crazy? He spends more than 3 days a month of his life commuting for a job he could perfectly perform at home.

Now ask yourself, how many people you know around you in the same situation? At the age of mobility, can’t we work smarter? In the past years, we have faster and more stable internet and mobile devices 24/7 closer than any other thing. Time has came to turn this to an advantage for companies, especially the ones located in big cities with crazy long commutes like Istanbul.

Here at BayPM, we have been working mobile for the past three years. I personally lived in Spain and United States during this time and I am now spending 2 weeks a month in London. We have clients abroad that we provide service every day and our team is working mobile most of the time. We gather once or twice a week to touch base with the team for our weekly meetings.This could also be performed on web, but I think is positive to keep in touch face to face when possible. The rest of it, totally mobile! Every project is  tracked, every time spent can be reported and team members are in touch like we are in an office,

World is going mobile, no doubt. Each day tech companies are creating new business solutions that fit our needs. I don’t claim every person in a company can perform their job remotely but, there is definitely some positions that can be performed remotely. This means money saving for the  company and life quality for the employees.

If you are still thinking your company is not eligible to work remotely, you are just not aware what is doable with technology.

We are at the age of mobility. Take advantage of technology and work smarter.
